Mikasa questions Levi, but he offers no response. Levi knows that, even if he wanted to, he cannot reveal his true identity to Eren, nor can he explain to Mikasa why he is there. (Mikasa and Levi are cousins.) Suddenly, Mikasa receives a call from Kenny and leaves. Levi returns to Eren’s side, taking his hand—his posture suggesting he is asking for forgiveness. Levi then speaks: "No matter what happens, Eren, I will protect you. You kept searching for me all this time; even after I hurt you so deeply, you never stopped loving me. Now, it’s my turn to protect you—even if it means keeping my identity hidden from you." Having said this, Levi plants a tender kiss on the forehead of the sleeping Eren. For a fleeting moment, a cross locket around Levi’s neck catches the light. Levi keeps watch over him throughout the night. The next morning, as Eren opens his eyes, he finds Levi asleep—his head resting on the edge of the bed, while he himself remains seated on the floor. Eren gazes at him for a moment, then lifts him into his arms and lays him down on the bed. Noticing that his own wounds have healed, Eren picks up his phone and makes a call. In a blunt, stern tone, he says, "I want him in the basement—today. Understood?" He ends the call abruptly. Glancing toward his bedside table, where a box sits, Eren whispers softly, "Where are you, Star Boy?"
