Sailor Star — Chapter 2: Sailor Pisces: The Meeting of the Minds

Starla stared at the red C-minus circled at the top of her chemistry test. Her stomach dropped. She'd never gotten below a B in her life.

"Miss Chen, please see me after class," Mrs. Henderson said, moving on to the next desk.

Marcus leaned over from the neighboring row. "Rough night?"

"Three vampires attacked the downtown district," Starla whispered back. "Didn't get home until two in the morning."

She'd been so exhausted that she'd fallen asleep during her morning alarm, missed breakfast, and arrived at school with her homework half-finished. The past week had been a blur of vampire attacks, training sessions with Orion, and attempting to maintain some semblance of normal teenage life.

When the bell rang, Starla approached Mrs. Henderson's desk with dread pooling in her chest.

"Starla, I'm concerned," her teacher began, removing her glasses. "Your grades have dropped significantly this week. You're falling asleep in class, and your last three assignments were incomplete. This isn't like you."

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Henderson. I've just been really busy—"

"I understand life gets hectic, but your education is important." The teacher's expression softened. "I'm assigning you a tutor. There's a new student who's already ahead of our entire curriculum. Perhaps she can help you get back on track."

Starla wanted to protest, but the evidence was right there in red ink. "Okay. Thank you."

That afternoon, Starla trudged into the library to meet her tutor. Orion sat primly beside her backpack, having insisted on coming along.

"This is a good opportunity," he said quietly, his voice audible only to her. "You need to learn time management if you're going to balance both lives."

"I know, I know," Starla muttered.

A girl with wavy auqa-blue hair looked up from a table covered in advanced textbooks. Her gray-blue eyes studied Starla with an intensity that made her feel transparent.

"You must be Starla," the girl said with a subtle British accent. "I'm Cammy Mist. Please, sit down."

Starla slid into the chair across from her. Orion hopped onto the table, and Cammy's gaze immediately fixed on the cat's forehead. Her expression remained neutral, but something flickered in her eyes.

"Interesting marking," Cammy observed.

"He's… special," Starla said carefully.

Cammy opened Starla's chemistry textbook. "Mrs. Henderson mentioned you've been struggling this week. Let's start with the material you missed."

For the next hour, Cammy explained chemical bonds and molecular structures with remarkable clarity. She had a way of breaking down complex concepts that made everything click. Starla found herself actually understanding the material instead of just memorizing formulas.

"You're brilliant," Starla said during a break. "Why did you move to Clifftown from London?"

Cammy's fingers traced the edge of her notebook. "My guardian thought it was time for a change of scenery. Fresh start and all that."

The word *guardian* hung in the air between them.

Orion's tail swished. "Cammy, that's an unusual name. Short for something?"

"Camilla, actually," she replied, meeting the cat's amber eyes directly. "And before you ask—yes, I can hear you perfectly well."

Starla's breath caught. "You can hear him?"

Cammy reached into her bag and pulled out a small turquoise brooch shaped like two fish swimming in a circle. "I was wondering when we'd stop dancing around it. I'm Sailor Pisces. I've been tracking vampire activity in the northern territories for six months."

Orion stood, his crescent moon glowing faintly. "The Pisces Guardian. We'd heard rumors but couldn't confirm."

"The vampires' reach is expanding," Cammy explained. "Their queen is gathering forces, which is why I was sent here. Clifftown is becoming a focal point." She looked at Starla. "When Mrs. Henderson asked me to tutor someone, I looked you up. Late to class all week, dark circles under your eyes, and always accompanied by a mystical cat. The pieces fell together rather quickly."

Starla laughed, relief washing over her. "I thought I was going crazy trying to keep everything secret."

"You don't have to, not from me." Cammy's serious expression softened into a small smile. "We're on the same side. And frankly, you need help managing your responsibilities. Fighting evil is important, but failing chemistry won't save anyone."

"She has a point," Orion said dryly.

Marcus appeared at the library entrance, waving at Starla. When he approached and saw Cammy, he paused. "Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to interrupt."

"Marcus, this is Cammy. She's my new tutor and—" Starla glanced at Cammy, who nodded. "She's also a sailor guardian."

Marcus's eyebrows shot up. "Seriously? That's amazing! So there are more of you?"

"Several, scattered across the world," Cammy confirmed. "Though we're rarely in the same location. The universe has a way of bringing us together when the threat escalates."

Starla felt something shift inside her—a weight she hadn't realized she'd been carrying alone suddenly felt lighter. She wasn't just Clifftown's only defender anymore. She had an ally who understood both the magical and mundane struggles.

"So," Starla said, her bubbly smile returning in full force, "want to grab coffee and discuss battle strategies? And maybe help me finish my history essay?"

Cammy closed her textbook. "I think that's an excellent plan. Though we should also establish a patrol schedule that doesn't conflict with your sleep schedule."

As they gathered their things, Orion exchanged a meaningful glance with Cammy. The arrival of Sailor Pisces meant darker days were ahead, but it also meant hope. Together, these guardians might stand a chance against whatever the vampire queen was planning.

Starla linked arms with Cammy as they left the library, Marcus and Orion following close behind. For the first time in a week, she felt like maybe she could actually do this—save the world *and* pass chemistry.
