KAIRO #1 FIRST LIGHT — Chapter 2: What Blooms in the Ruins
All chapters of KAIRO #1 FIRST LIGHT
Chapter 2 opens with thirteen-year-old Kairo walking through the crowded streets of the ruined city, carrying the freshly restored white-and-crimson flower in his hand. The flower immediately attracts attention. In a world where fully grown flowers are extremely rare and valuable, people notice it almost instantly. Vendors, scavengers, and merchants stare as Kairo passes. One vendor eventually approaches him and offers him food, water, and other supplies in exchange for it. Kairo refuses. When the vendor asks why he would turn down something so valuable, Kairo simply answers: “It's for someone special.” Kairo continues through the city until he reaches an abandoned tower that has become his secret hangout. High above the ruined streets, the tower gives him a quiet view of the city below. He sits against the broken concrete, places the flower carefully beside him, and lights a cigarette. For a moment, everything is quiet. Then someone taps him on the shoulder. It's Rin. She sits beside him, immediately noticing the flower. The two talk casually about the city, survival, and what Kairo has been up to. Their conversation shows their friendship naturally—Rin teases him, Kairo acts annoyed, but there's obvious trust between them. Eventually, Kairo picks up the flower and hands it to her. Rin is surprised. Rin: “Are you sure?” Kairo simply tells her to take it. Rin looks down at the flower, genuinely amazed. Rin: “It's beautiful.” The chapter ends with the two sitting together above the ruined city, the flower between them—a small piece of life in a world that has almost completely forgotten what life looks like.
