KAIRO #1 FIRST LIGHT — Chapter 1: The Last Green
All chapters of KAIRO #1 FIRST LIGHT
Chapter 1 opens on a bleak, dying Earth where humanity has survived after generations of conflict and environmental collapse. The land is barren, vegetation is almost nonexistent, and ruined cities stretch across the landscape, showing the reader immediately that this is a world that has lost most of its life. The story then shifts into Kairo's childhood. Around five or six years old, Kairo discovers that he can somehow restore life when he touches a patch of dead grass. Without understanding what he's doing, he watches the grass return to vibrant green life. To him, it's simply something strange and wonderful. Years later, Kairo is with his mother in a hospital. She is seriously ill, and despite being weak, she tells him something that has stayed with him ever since: “You were always special. Ever since you were a child.” Kairo doesn't understand what she means. Before she can explain everything, the memory ends. The story then returns to the present. Kairo is now thirteen, living alone in the ruins of the city and surviving however he can. He scavenges for food and shelter, demonstrating that he's independent, clever, and accustomed to the harshness of the world. While searching for something to eat, Kairo finds a seed. He plants it in a small patch of soil and unconsciously uses his mysterious ability. The seed rapidly grows into a healthy plant, giving Kairo food. He still doesn't understand that he's using Positive Energy. Meanwhile, somewhere else in the ruined city, an unknown person detects an unusual Energy disturbance. A scanner registers an unknown energy signature. The chapter ends with Kairo standing alone among the ruins, surrounded by a world almost completely devoid of life—while a small patch of green grows beside him.
