Action · Fantasy

In a world where Negative Energy has dominated humanity for generations, the Earth itself has become a dying wasteland. Natural life is nearly gone, vegetation is extremely rare, and many once-great cities have collapsed into rubble. Humanity survives among the ruins, having long forgotten what a thriving world looked like. Years before the main story, a young Kairo accidentally reveals something impossible. As a small child, he touches a patch of dead grass—and life returns to it. His mother, who is gravely ill, later tells him that he has always been special, though she never gets the chance to explain why. Years later, Kairo is thirteen and living alone on the streets. He's tough, rebellious, resourceful, and used to surviving without anyone's help. He has no idea that the strange ability he occasionally uses is something the world hasn't seen in generations: Positive Energy. Kairo's ability, Regeneration, allows him to restore damaged things and accelerate natural growth. In a world where even healthy plants are almost nonexistent, his power makes something as simple as growing food incredibly valuable. Kairo's closest friend, Rin, survives alongside him. Her Negative Energy ability, Degradation, is almost the exact opposite of his—she can accelerate the breakdown of materials, weakening and destroying objects. Despite their opposite abilities, the two become inseparable, with Rin being one of the few people Kairo genuinely trusts. Their lives change when strange Energy disturbances begin appearing around the city. A tracker named Vex is sent by a mysterious corporation to investigate. Using specialized tracking technology, Vex detects the disturbances but can't determine which person is responsible. Unable to distinguish Kairo's unfamiliar Positive Energy from Rin's Negative Energy, he decides to capture both of them. Kairo and Rin are eventually taken prisoner. When Kairo gets an opportunity to escape, he initially hesitates. For the first time, he has a genuine chance to save himself and disappear. Then he thinks about Rin. Kairo turns around. Instead of leaving her behind, he goes back for her. Their escape forces Kairo to push Regeneration further than he ever has before, while Rin uses Degradation to create openings against their captors. Vex realizes that the boy he's hunting possesses something that shouldn't exist. Positive Energy. The arc ends with Kairo and Rin escaping Vex's grasp—but Vex doesn't consider the mission a failure. From a hidden location, he contacts his mysterious superior and reports what he discovered. The disturbances weren't random. Positive Energy has returned. And somewhere in the ruined world, a thirteen-year-old boy named Kairo Vale is carrying it.
